Gifts from the Lowcountry: Oyster Edition

It’s no secret that we love locally made gifts here at the store. In fact, we estimate that almost one third of our total sales come from items made here in South Carolina!

Here’s a quick round up of some of our favorites. We’re titling this one Oyster Edition, because it features items made with the Lowcountry’s favorite shell, but it could also be called Volume 1, as there are more gift guides to come!

Welcome Beads:

There’s nothing like these! Dubbed ‘jewelry for your home,’ these chunky beaded beauties can hang on a doorknob, around a wine bottle as a special gift, or as an ornament. Oyster shells collected on local beaches are meticulously cleaned, gilded and given a shiny coating. Then they’re strung with a mix of wooden and glass beads for a beachy vibe. Want a shell that you can wear instead of display? Local artist Tara Kellner is so on trend with these gorgeous necklaces that combine the silky softness of a scarf with a shell. Trust us – it’s totally wearable, and special… guaranteed to bring compliments. We have assorted colors for $36.

Grit and Grace Oyster Jewelry Dishes:

These beloved shells-turned-into-jewelry-catch-all’s, are always a winning gift. We’re constantly reordering them! Cleverly designed with a flat bottom, and either painted or decoupaged with distinctive patterns, there’s something for everyone. For out of towner’s the Charleston Map design is just right, with its subtle bird’s eye view of the peninsula and harbor. For graduates, there’s a simple “the world is your oyster” design, which sums things up perfectly. Honestly, it’s hard to pick a favorite. We always have these in stock, they’re $45.

Sea Salt Candle in Ceramic Oyster Vessel:

We used to pour these candles in the back of the store, but we’ve recently connected with a wonderful local Chandler who’s now making them for us. We’ve also upgraded to a soy wax for a cleaner burn. But the divine Sea Salt scent is unchanged. It’s our best seller for a reason: like a sea breeze coming off the ocean, sweeping over some blooming flowers along the way.
